SCITEK has developed the capability to perform ice impact testing on aero structures.
This testing is used to validate a range of air frame and engine structures under typical ice impact conditions that may be experienced in flight.
We have capability to test prepared materials samples as well as representative structures.
Other materials can also be accommodated for applications within the rail or automotive industry.
We have a compressed air driven cannon. This can propel a 20mm diameter ice projectile at velocities up to 200 metres per second. Other sizes can be accommodated.
We have the capability to image the impact event with high-speed video
The rig is installed at SCITEK’s facility in Derby, UK and testing can be carried out at our premises. The equipment can also be transported to a customer site where required.
The rig allows traceable measurement of ice impact velocity.
The rig has been used for certification testing by a major UK manufacturer.
